Supported Independent Living (SIL)

Group of Diverse People Planting Tree Together with the help of their disability support workers at their Supported Independent Living Accommodation

What is Supported Independent Living (SIL)?

Supported Independent Living is designed to help people live independently either in their own homes or in share houses by providing individualised and specialised care packages that enable them to complete their daily tasks with dignity. We take care to match our clients to their housemates and make sure their new homes will be comfortable, friendly and meet their needs on a social and practical level.

Enhance Community Services provides Supported Independent Living (SIL) options with a variety of programs and diverse housing settings across the Hunter region. We have options for smaller living arrangements, large houses, urban and rural options. They are all friendly and welcoming, with a personalised support program for each client across our accommodation network. Our support options are tailored to the individual needs of the people in our care, and we make sure each client is involved in the delivery and design of their support packages.

Our Supported Independent Living (SIL) houses are chosen on the following criteria:
  • The house is warm and inviting

  • Our clients have inspected the premise and loved the setting prior to moving in

  • The support provided is tailored to each resident and is mindful of their specific needs

  • That it feels like a home, not just a workplace

  • That the housemates our clients will be sharing with are friendly, compatible with each other, and everyone feels safe

We offer short-term, long-term, permanent and transition accommodation.

The support provided includes (but is not limited to):
  • Moving in

  • Completing household chores

  • Learning to live well with others or alone, social skills development

  • Getting up and ready for the day

  • Daily living activities

  • Managing the responsibilities of living in your own home as independently as possible

  • Assisting with medication management and administration

  • Managing documentation and administration, including paying the bills and budgeting if required

  • Grocery shopping, meal planning, healthy eating

Our SIL housing solutions are designed to provide the most practical and positive solutions for our clients and aim to create sustainable long-term outcomes for our clients who live in them.
